About Dr. Punturieri

Dr. Antonello (Tony) Punturieri is a Program Officer in the Division of Lung Diseases (DLD), National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), National Institutes of Health (NIH). He is currently serving as Scientific Program Director for the NHLBI Collaborating Network of Networks for Evaluating COVID-19 and Therapeutic Strategies (CONNECTS) program under the trans-NIH Accelerating COVID-19 Therapeutic Interventions and Vaccines (ACTIV) Integration of Host-Targeting Therapies for COVID-19 initiative. He is also the Scientific Program Director for the Administrative Coordinating Center for the trans-NIH Researching COVID to Enhance Recovery (RECOVER) initiative. In non-COVID times, Dr. Punturieri administers a varied portfolio of grants and contracts in the area of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease and environment. He obtained his M.D. in Ferrara (Italy) and obtained a Ph.D. in immunology at “La Sapienza” University in Rome, Italy.
