About Dr. Tita

Dr. Alan Tita is a Professor and Senior Vice-Chair for Research and Innovation and the Mary Heersink Chair of Global Health in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Heersink School of Medicine where he also serves as the Associate Dean for Global and Women’s Health. He is the Director of the university-wide Center for Women’s Reproductive Health and Principal Investigator of the UAB Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) Maternal Fetal Medicine Units network center. His expertise includes maternal-fetal medicine (MFM), perinatal epidemiology, and global health. Dr. Tita leads collaborative multi-site and single-site clinical trials and observational studies that influence practice and policy globally including the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute-funded multicenter treatment trial of chronic hypertension in pregnancy. Among multiple activities Dr. Tita serves on the NICHD National Advisory Council and on the MFM Division of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He has served as a consultant editor for the Green Journal and consultant for the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and National Institutes of Health.
