Jane Cauley is Distinguished Professor and Executive Vice Chair, Department of Epidemiology, Graduate School of Public Health, University of Pittsburgh.

She has been involved in osteoporosis research for 30+ years, and is Principal Investigator of the Osteoporotic Fractures in Men (MrOS) Study at the University of Pittsburgh, serving in this role since its inception. She has extensive experience as Principal Investigator on many large cohort studies in addition to MrOS (e.g., the Study of Osteoporotic Fractures). She is Co-Principal Investigator of the Women’s Health Initiative (WHI) in Pittsburgh, and was Chair/Co-Chair of the WHI Calcium/Vitamin D Osteoporosis Committee during the trial. She is an active member of the WHI Osteoporosis Scientific Interest Group. She served as President of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) (2016–2017) and most recently completed her 3-year term on the ASBMR Executive Committee.

Dr. Cauley’s primary research interest is the epidemiology of osteoporosis, especially the large worldwide ethnic and geographic variability in fracture, osteoporosis treatment, risk factors for fractures, and the consequences of osteoporosis in both men and women. Her other research has focused on women’s health and aging, falls, the interaction between endogenous and exogenous hormones, risk factors, and disease outcomes. Her research examining the inflammation of aging hypothesis has extended to not only fractures and mortality but also physical and cognitive function cross-sectionally and changes over time.

Dr. Cauley did not disclose any conflicts of interest for this workshop.
