About Dr. Greer

Raquel Greer is a health services researcher and Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine (Division of General Internal Medicine) and the Welch Center for Prevention, Epidemiology and Clinical Research at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She is also a practicing general internist.

Dr. Greer’s research program focuses on identifying and addressing ethnic/racial disparities in care and clinical outcomes of patients with chronic illness, including chronic kidney disease, diabetes, and hypertension. She has research skills and experience in a variety of research methodological areas, including: (a) the conduct of qualitative and quantitative studies to characterize practice patterns in the provision of care for patients with chronic illness and to assess patient, physician, and system factors contributing to poor quality care and health care disparities, (b) the development of patient, provider, and system-level interventions to improve health care quality and promote health equity, and (c) the evaluation of the effectiveness of these interventions in randomized controlled trials.

Dr. Greer was the principal investigator of a K23 grant focused on identifying ways in which primary care providers’ chronic kidney disease (CKD) care can be enhanced to improve CKD-related outcomes overall and narrow racial/ethnic disparities in CKD. She is the co-investigator and collaborator of several ongoing PCORI and NIH-funded intervention trials and programs to improve health care quality and health equity for patients with CKD and CKD-related risk factors. Dr. Greer currently serves as the principal investigator of two community-based behavioral intervention studies to improve diabetes self-management and outcomes among low-income adults in East Baltimore.

Dr. Greer did not disclose any conflicts of interest for this workshop.
