About the Lecture
The Asian American population is the fastest-growing group in the United States, expected to number approximately 46 million by 2060. Health research frequently aggregates Asian individuals into a single category, masking clinically significant heterogeneity in health and disease outcomes across various Asian communities. In this lecture, Dr. Shah outlines the science of cardiovascular disease prevention among Asian American populations. His exposition includes emphasizing the epidemiology of cardiovascular health across disaggregated Asian communities, characterizing upstream social and structural factors that influence cardiovascular disease risk in these groups, and discussing evidence for adapted clinical and community-based prevention interventions that build on the unique characteristics of Asian populations. Dr. Shah additionally highlights future directions for cardiovascular prevention for Asian Americans, interventions cited in his own NIH-funded research program.
