Robert Adler is Chief of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the McGuire Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Professor of Internal Medicine and Epidemiology at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine in Richmond, VA. He received his M.D. and internal medicine training at Johns Hopkins and did his endocrinology fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital and Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

Recent studies focus on osteoporosis screening in men, osteoporosis in mobility disorders (such as spinal cord injury), and pituitary deficiency after blast traumatic brain injury. He is a member of the editorial boards of Endocrine, Journal of Clinical Densitometry, Journal of Endocrinological Investigation, and The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism. He is an Associate Editor of Osteoporosis International. Dr. Adler was recently appointed Co-Chair of the new Department of Veterans Affairs Field Advisory Committee on Osteoporosis. 

Dr. Adler was a co-author of the Endocrine Society Guideline on Osteoporosis in Men. He was a member of the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research (ASBMR) Task Force on Atypical Femoral Fractures. He was Co-Chair of the ASBMR Task Force on Long-Term Bisphosphonate Treatment for Osteoporosis.
