Communications Specialist

Dr. Winnie S. Wong joined ODP as a Communications Specialist in April 2023. Dr. Wong provides communications support for several ODP initiatives including portfolio analysis, promoting partnerships and collaborations, and addressing health disparities. She also helps manage social media outreach for the office.

Before joining ODP, she was the Communications Lead at the NIH Office of Portfolio Analysis, where she launched the office’s Twitter account, established communications best practices, and provided communications support for multiple analytical tools and projects.

Dr. Wong brings extensive experience in science writing, academic research, and women’s health to ODP. She is passionate about using creative storytelling to distill complex problems and build impactful solutions to benefit public health. Before coming to NIH, Dr. Wong worked on women’s health diagnostics, both as a researcher and communicator. As part of her Ph.D. training, she focused on developing an HPV diagnostic to detect cervical cancer for women in low-resource settings. She started her career at QIAGEN, creating digital and written content for women’s health and infectious disease diagnostic products.

Dr. Wong earned a Ph.D. in biomedical engineering from Boston University and a B.S. in bioengineering from University of California, Berkeley.
