Cristan Smith, Ph.D.

Health Science Policy Analyst

Dr. Cristan Smith joined the ODP as a Health Science Policy Analyst in June 2020. In this role, Dr. Smith supports the systematic monitoring and analyses of NIH investments in prevention research and identifies prevention research areas for expanded effort by the NIH.
 
Prior to joining ODP, Dr. Smith was a Health Specialist at the National Institute on Aging in the Division of Neuroscience. While there, she provided program management and portfolio analysis support for the Epidemiology of Alzheimer’s Portfolio, the Alzheimer’s Disease Research Centers Portfolio, and in the Office of Strategic Partnerships. As part of her responsibilities in the Office of Strategic Partnerships, she served on the Alzheimer’s Disease Bypass Budget Work Group, led the annual review to assess progress on the Alzheimer’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease-Related Dementias Research Milestones, and was the primary contact for the International Alzheimer’s and Related Dementias Research Portfolio. 

Dr. Smith earned her Ph.D. in gerontology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. She completed her master’s and bachelor’s degrees at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County and University of Maryland, College Park, respectively.
